Compared with the State average, more people in SEH had tertiary qualifications. The proportion of people with a bachelor degree or higher was 16% in SEH, compared to the NSW average of 11%.

Aboriginal people, non-English speakers and people born in non-English speaking counties were less likely than others to have post-school qualifications.

More people in SEH had post-school qualifications at 1996 Census than at previous Censuses. The proportion of people with tertiary qualifications (associate diploma or higher) increased significantly.
