Homelessness and human services - a health service response

Author: CSPP and Homelessness and Health Working Party
Date of publication: Mar. 2000
Abstract:

At the 1996 Census 3625 homeless people were counted in South East Health, including older men, women, children, young people and asylum seekers. Another 456 young people receive government allowances due to homelessness. Homeless people are poor, isolated, mentally and physically unwell, with a high death rate. Numbers seem to be increasing.

This position statement outlines the South East Health commitment to homeless people through advocacy and policy development.
